Kawai launched the F series with four models at the beginning of the 1980s: F-1, F-III, and F-V. The F-1 was the top model with active electronics, versatile circuitry, and elaborate workmanship in the sandwich-construction bodies. The top model was the F-1, which was later followed by another F-1 model. The guitar known as the “F-1 Junior” had a similarly elaborate construction, but featured a stoptail and bridge and simple circuitry.

The F-1 with active booster circuit, Variotone, coil-switch, and phase-switch was the top model of the F series. This body in natural finish is made of maple with a georgous mahogany center. The laminated neck is also made of two stripes of maple and three strips of mahogany.

The wood selection is of the highest quality and without any visual imperfections.

The highest quality craftsmanship is another hallmark of Kawai's F-series guitars.

The top-of-the-line F-1 model was available with either DiMarzio pickups or Kawai “DSU” humbuckers. This model is equipped with DSU pickups. This pickup has aluminum foil wrapped around the outer circumference of each coil to prevent noise. It also has a three magnet construction to prevent volume drop when switching to a single coil.
